HFCRD Welcomes Tina McDonald as Principal of Good Shepherd School

The Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) is pleased to welcome Tina McDonald as the Principal of Good Shepherd School, commencing in the 2017/18 school year.  Tina, who is currently an Assistant Principal at St. Joseph Catholic High School, brings a wealth of experience as a teacher, administrator, Supervisor of FNMI / Graduation Coach.

“We are very excited to welcome Tina to Good Shepherd School.  She is a leader in both her school and faith communities,” said Superintendent Betty Turpin.  “Tina is an excellent fit for Good Shepherd School as she has many years of experience in large schools offering a wide variety of programming.”

Tina graduated from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario in 1995, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography and Religious Studies.  In 1997, she completed her Bachelor of Education Degree with a focus on the middle years.  She began teaching in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories in 1997 as a French as a Second Language teacher.  During her ten years in Yellowknife, Tina taught late immersion, English Language Arts, French, and various other subjects in grades 1-8.

In 2005, Tina and her family relocated to Grande Prairie where she began working as a French Immersion Social Studies, Religion, and Physical Education teacher at Ecole St. Gerard.  In 2008, Tina was appointed as the Vice Principal of that school.  From there, Tina assumed various roles (Vice Principal, teacher, Supervisor of FNMI/ Graduation Coach) in the district at both Mother Teresa Catholic School and St. Joseph Catholic High School.

Tina is a very active member of the faith community.  She has offered book study to St Joseph Parish, is a part of several ministries at the Parish, and currently sits on the Parish Pastoral Council.  Tina has a real passion for sport.  She is highly involved in extra curricular activities. She has coached a variety of different sports throughout her teaching career.

Tina is currently completing her Masters in Educational Leadership from Yorkville University out of Moncton, New Brunswick.  A focus of her education plan has been on Aboriginal Education and French Immersion.  Tina knows and believes in the importance of relationships, collaboration, differentiated instruction, alternative assessment strategies, and community involvement.

Tina is also the proud mother of four beautiful children, Taylor, Kiera, Brooke, and Troy.  She met her husband Les in Yellowknife in 1999.  Together they enjoy river boating, camping, and the great outdoors.
